Briazgun ( "Ringing") spring

This spring is the most interesting tourist attraction in Cherikov District. The spring is located in the wild forest, not far from the village of Norki. The atmosphere is very calm and peaceful here, and once you come, you don’t want to leave.

A legend says that many years ago a fountain appeared from the underground on the day of St. Peter and Paul. The fountain was ‘ringing’ so loudly that it could be heard from many miles away. So the spring got its name — Briazgun, that is the Ringing Spring. The place became sacred for the local people. They collected money, bought an icon of St. Peter and Paul and passed this icon from house to house. The family that was keeping the icon till the next holiday was responsible for taking care of the spring.

The dwellers of the village of Norki celebrate Briazgun Day on the eve of St. Peter and Paul’s day. Today only 25 people live in the village but on this holiday they have visitors who come round from other places. Women follow some special ceremonies for three days — they believe, that the following year will be lucky and trouble and grief will not enter the village.

In 2013 Briazgun ceremony was acknowledged to be Intangible Cultural Heritage of Belarus.
